The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation is pleased to announce that Claire Chang, senior program officer, has been recognized as one of Minnesota’s top “50 over 50” leaders by AARP Minnesota and Pollen. The “50 over 50” list honors leaders over the age of 50 who have shattered myths about aging and demonstrated significant contributions and achievements in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, with an emphasis on work in the arts and local communities. Notably, Chang was selected for her more than 20 years of leadership in philanthropy and for her life-long dedication to mentorship.
“Claire has been a tireless advocate to young people about the importance of fearlessness, persistence, integrity and authenticity,” said Carolyn Link, executive director of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation. “She not only celebrates the gifts of young professionals, but Claire genuinely believes that the next generation of leaders are capable of making change. She cheers young, emerging talent in our community, which encourages them to continue pursuing their goals.”
Prior to joining the Blue Cross Foundation in 2015, Chang was the associate vice president of community impact at Minnesota Philanthropy Partners. Throughout her career, Chang has served as an early childhood educator, a domestic violence prevention advocate, a community organizer, and a philanthropist.
Chang graduated with her bachelor’s degree in child development and family life from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She also earned a master’s degree in philanthropy and development from St. Mary’s University. As part of her passion to create more equitable communities, Chang has served as a board member for many of the area’s leading nonprofits, including Hope Community in Minneapolis, the Jeremiah Program, PFund Foundation, and the Girl Scouts of River Valleys.
